Internship Opportunity
Six-Month Research Internship in Bioinformatics
(July 01 – December 30, 2026)
The Integrative Centre for Research & Innovation in Biology, established by the Braj Mohan Jha Science Research & Innovation Foundation, invites applications for its 24-Week Research-Oriented Academic Internship in Bioinformatics.
This structured program is designed to provide undergraduate students in biotechnology and allied life sciences disciplines with systematic training in bioinformatics and computational biology through guided academic mentorship.
Nature of the Program
Mode: Remote
Duration: 24 Weeks (6 Months)
Time Commitment: Approximately 8–10 hours per week
Program Type: Academic, research-oriented internship
The internship emphasizes conceptual clarity, biological interpretation, data analysis, and scientific communication using publicly available datasets and open-access bioinformatics platforms.
The program does not involve wet-lab experimentation, paid employment, or on-site training. It is intended to build foundational competence and analytical independence suitable for higher studies and research-oriented career pathways.
Academic Objectives
Upon completion of the program, interns will be able to:
Navigate major biological databases and repositories
Conduct sequence, functional, structural, and transcriptomic analyses
Interpret bioinformatics outputs in biological context
Integrate multi-level data into coherent research conclusions
Prepare formal scientific documentation and presentation
Program Structure
The internship is organized into five progressive academic phases:
Phase I: Orientation & Bioinformatics Fundamentals (Weeks 1–4)
Foundational exposure to biological databases and sequence analysis tools, culminating in written analytical assignments.
Phase II: Sequence Analysis & Phylogenetics (Weeks 5–8)
Comparative sequence analysis, multiple sequence alignment, and evolutionary interpretation.
Phase III: Functional Genomics & Transcriptomics (Weeks 9–14)
Analysis of public gene expression datasets, differential expression interpretation, enrichment analysis, and interaction network construction.
Phase IV: Structural & Protein Bioinformatics (Weeks 15–18)
Protein structure analysis, structural visualization, and structure–function relationship interpretation.
Phase V: Capstone Research Project (Weeks 19–24)
An independent, mentored bioinformatics research project resulting in:
A comprehensive 25–30 page research-style report
A documented analytical workflow
An online oral presentation
Mentorship & Evaluation
The program operates under guided academic mentorship with periodic review meetings.
Performance is evaluated based on:
Conceptual understanding
Ethical and correct application of bioinformatics tools
Biological interpretation of analytical results
Quality of written and visual documentation
Professional conduct and consistency
Certification
Upon satisfactory completion of all academic requirements, participants will be awarded a certificate titled:
“Six-Month Research Internship in Bioinformatics”
Issued by the Integrative Centre for Research & Innovation in Biology.
Certification is contingent upon successful completion of all deliverables and academic assessments.
Important Information
The internship is remote and unpaid.
No stipend, employment status, or visa support is provided.
A nominal academic program fee of INR 12000/- may be charged to support training and mentorship activities.
Authorship or extended collaboration opportunities, where applicable, are merit-based and discretionary.
Eligibility
Applications are invited from:
Undergraduate students in Biotechnology and related life sciences disciplines
Students with a demonstrated interest in bioinformatics and computational biology
Individuals intending to pursue research-oriented higher studies
Next batch will start from July 01 – December 30, 2026. Apply before May 30, 2026.
